Sri Lanka - Kotmale S9

Sri Lanka, historically known as Ceylon, was once one of the world’s major coffee producers before coffee leaf rust devastated much of the industry in the late 1800s and pushed many farms toward tea. In recent years, coffee production has begun to re-emerge, with a stronger focus on specialty quality and small-scale production.

This lot comes from the Kotmale region of Sri Lanka’s Central Province, where coffee is grown by village-based smallholder farmers and selected plantation partners. The area’s cooler mountain climate, fertile soils, and lush environment create favorable conditions for slow, balanced cherry development.

After harvest, ripe cherries are depulped while leaving some of the fruit’s mucilage on the seed before drying. This honey process allows the remaining sugars to influence the coffee during drying, building sweetness, body, and complexity while maintaining clarity.

The lot is composed of the S9 variety, offering a distinctive expression of Sri Lankan coffee that balances gentle fruit character, sweetness, and a refined structure.
