ORIGIN HISTORY:
Coffee has been part of India’s story for centuries, beginning in the 1600s when Baba Budan is believed to have brought coffee seeds from Yemen into the hills of Karnataka. Over time, cultivation spread throughout the country’s southern mountain regions, where high elevations, dense shade cover, and rich biodiversity created ideal conditions for producing distinctive coffees. Today, India’s specialty coffee movement continues to gain global recognition through producers blending long-standing agricultural tradition with innovative processing techniques.
FARM PROCESS:
This coffee was produced at Ratnagiri Estate, located within the Western Ghats, a UNESCO-recognized biodiversity hotspot known for its lush forests and unique ecosystem. Founded in 1927, the estate has spent generations refining its approach to coffee cultivation while maintaining a strong focus on sustainability, soil health, and meticulous lot selection. Under the leadership of Ashok and Divya Patre, Ratnagiri has become internationally recognized for producing some of India’s most expressive and experimental coffees.
This natural processed lot is carefully dried with the fruit intact, allowing the coffee to develop deeper sweetness, fuller body, and layered fruit complexity while still maintaining balance and clarity in the cup.
CUP PROFILE:
Expect a rich, fruit-forward cup with notes of toasted blueberry, warm brown sugar sweetness, and lingering cacao. The body is smooth and syrupy, balancing vibrant fruit character with comforting sweetness and a long, chocolate-driven finish.
