Coffee Story

Hawaii produces only a small share of the world’s coffee, but its volcanic soils, tropical climate, and careful cultivation have given it an outsized reputation for quality. While Kona is the state’s best-known growing region, Maui has developed a distinctive coffee identity of its own.

This lot comes from MauiGrown Coffee’s Kaʻanapali Estate on the western side of Maui, above Lahaina. The estate was developed on former sugar plantation land and has spent decades identifying which coffee varieties perform best in Maui’s warm days, cooling trade winds, and volcanic soils.

The coffee is a Yellow Caturra, a yellow-ripening mutation of Caturra that remains relatively uncommon outside select producing regions. Fully ripe cherries are selectively harvested and naturally processed, meaning the fruit is dried intact around the seed. This slower drying process helps build sweetness and body while preserving the clean, refined character associated with the estate.
