SUGGESTED BREW METHODS: Pour Over | AeroPress | French Press | Espresso
ORIGIN HISTORY:
Flores has quietly built a reputation for producing some of Indonesia’s most distinctive coffees, though it often remains overshadowed by regions like Sumatra and Java. Coffee arrived on the island during Dutch colonial expansion in the 19th century, where Flores’ volcanic soil, dense forests, and high elevations proved ideal for cultivation. Today, much of the region’s coffee is still grown by smallholder farmers using traditional farming and processing methods passed down through generations.
FARM PROCESS:
This lot comes from the Turelelo mill, where cherries are gathered from nearby smallholder farmers and processed using Indonesia’s traditional wet hulled method, known locally as giling basah. The process gives the coffee its signature heavy body and deep, rustic character that Indonesian coffees are known for.
CUP PROFILE:
In the cup, expect bold notes of tobacco, pine, dark cocoa, and cedar layered with bittersweet sweetness reminiscent of sorghum syrup and brown sugar. The body is rich and coating, finishing with lingering cocoa, warm spice, and earthy sweetness.
