Yemen — Bani Matari

Yemen is one of the birthplaces of the global coffee trade, where cultivation dates back hundreds of years and coffee first moved through the legendary port of Mokha to reach the rest of the world. Unlike many modern producing countries, coffee in Yemen is still grown much as it always has been, on steep, hand-built terraces in dry, mountainous regions, without large-scale industrial farming. Over generations, farmers have preserved diverse heirloom varieties, giving Yemeni coffee its unmistakable depth and identity.
This Mokha Haimi lot comes from the Haima region near Sana’a, produced by smallholder farmers working tiny plots of land, often with only a few hundred trees. The combination of elevation, isolation, and genetic diversity results in a coffee that is less about uniformity and more about expression, each lot carrying a sense of place and tradition that is difficult to replicate anywhere else.
This is a coffee rooted in history, complex, unrefined, and deeply representative of one of the oldest coffee cultures in the world.
