Ghana - Volta Canephora

Coffee has been grown in Ghana’s Volta Region since the 1930s, where Canephora thrives in the mountainous landscape beneath cacao trees, plantains, and native forest cover. Smallholder farmers in communities such as Leklebi have cultivated coffee here for generations using traditional farming methods closely connected to the surrounding environment.

This lot was produced by smallholder farmers in Leklebi and sourced through Kawa Moka, a social enterprise founded by Emi-Beth Quantson to help bring Ghanaian specialty coffee to a broader market. What began with a small group of women farmers has grown into a network supporting more than 100 female producers across the region.

The cherries are handpicked, carefully sorted, and sun-dried whole on raised African beds for several weeks. This natural process encourages deeper sweetness and body while preserving the bold structure associated with Canephora.
